There are a number of Saint Bernards that are in need of help and new homes. Some of the reasons why hundreds of Saint Bernards and Saint Bernard mixes are turned into rescues each year may be death of the owner, moving, divorce, a new baby, and so forth. Other reasons are more trivial. For instance, the Saint Bernard owner might have suddenly realized that the dog tends to drool, it is too big, it sheds, and it needs time, attention and money spent.
Volunteer groups do their best to get these dogs out of the situations in which they have no one to take care of them. Rescue Saint Bernards require their needs analyzed, health problems treated, if any, and finally re-homed.
Saint Bernards - Working Dogs
Saint Bernards are famous for their work for the benefit of people. Thanks to their sense of smell, they are able to dig people out of snowstorms. It is claimed that Saint Bernards have saved over 2 thousand people. Once the Saint Bernard has located a person, he digs him out of the snow, warms the person with his body and licks his face in order to wake him up.
