Saint Bernards are charming giants. A potential dog owner should be warned against buying a dog attracted by its appearance only. Keep in mind that neat and glamorous appearance is mostly the result of hours devoted to grooming. Saint Bernards are working dogs that like to spend most of their time with their masters. They do best living with you in the house and having a chance to accompany you everywhere you go. A backyard or a kennel is not the most suitable living situation for the Saint Bernard. Saint Bernards are human companionship-oriented to which it should be paid quite a lot of attention.
The Saint Bernard breed is not the right choice for you, if you do not plan to dedicate time to training, and if you think that you can leave your pet unattended for long hours. Leadership and training is what you ought to offer your Saint Bernard, if you wish to have an obedient dog.
Are you squeamish about your home? Well, Saint Bernards are no saints, and dirt is doomed to appear on your furniture after your pet has come from a few minutes of being outdoors on a nasty day. This breed does cause mess in the house. Drooling is an inseparable part of the Saint Bernard. If the idea of drooling and making a mess in your house frightens you, consider another dog breed. If you are still attracted to Saint Bernards, start looking for a responsible breeder to buy your puppy.
